Trades include paper , compasses , and empty maps , as well as Explorer Maps that lead to structures such as Woodland Mansions and Ocean Monuments .
They progress through five levels— Novice , Apprentice , Journeyman , Expert , and Master —unlocking better trades as they gain experience. They can be leveled up by trading emeralds , paper , glass panes , and compasses .
Cartographers can be zombified and cured to reduce trade costs, making them useful in trading halls. They spawn naturally in villages but can also be assigned the profession by placing a Cartography Table near an unemployed villager.
